“Catch the spirit in this book and follow the suggestions. I guarantee your writing will improve and you'll be a happier communicator."
—Thomas Moore, best-selling author of Care of the Soul.
“Unlike most business-writing books that are dry and dull, McDaniel’s work is a breezy, well-written how-to guide, nicely held together with stories of her experiences. The author is unafraid to illustrate some of her lessons with personal challenges and failures, which may be the best teacher.”
—Kirkus Discovery Reviews.

Business Writing Coaching

One-on-one business writing coaching sessions with Lynda McDaniel are a fast—and, yes, even fun—way to boost your confidence and your results.

Lynda answers some FAQs about how her coaching works:

Q: What makes you a good writing coach?
A: I understand how frustrating it can be to know what you want to write—but struggle to get the right words down. I can show you how to write faster—and make your words sing. You’ll overcome any lingering fears and self-doubt so you can write books that will make you a leader in your field, proposals that seal the deal, and blogs and articles that grab attention and increase traffic to your website.

The writing process is messy, and that’s where we get into trouble. We think our first drafts should be perfect. (I, too, am a recovering perfectionist who thought my first drafts should be brilliant.) We learn grammar and punctuation in school, but not the writing process. That’s like teaching carpenters all about lumber and hammers, but not teaching them how to build a house!

If you could see the early drafts of professional writers, writers you love to read, you’d be amazed at how scratched through and heavily edited they are. This is simply the writing process. You’ll often hear me say, “Good writing is really good editing. Bad writers just stopped too soon.”

Q: What is one-on-one coaching like?
A: You (or your team) will enjoy personal, private attention. Together, through telephone and e-mail discussions, we’ll run off those prissy teachers or bully bosses who made you worry about every word you wrote. You’ll quickly learn how to dismiss those inner critics, build on your strengths, and start writing like the professional you are.

I have an uncanny ability to see your unique potential. I believe in you and know you can write anything from a 300-word blog to a 30,00-word book. So I’ll encourage you—but not at the expense of quality. To make sure you finish with a worthy product, I’ll gently guide and instruct you too.

Oh, Lynda: This was terrific! Exactly what I was looking for.
Wow – a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
[Our work together] is a must for my future projects and personal work.
—Dr. Katherine A. Hart, Ed.D., ClearVision Consulting, Alameda, Calif.

Q: Do you assign a lot of homework?
A: You’ll work on business documents you are already writing for work (our clients are too busy for homework!) to practice kick-start techniques that end procrastination and increase confidence. You’ll learn how to craft an attention-grabbing beginning, an information-packed middle, and a compelling ending. Along the way, you’ll find your distinctive writing voice and style while learning to use powerful tools of effective communication.
